Hi, brothers and sisters Vespa lovers, in this spare time I would like to share my experience in modifying ignition system of my Special 90. The idea to change the ignition from contact system to CDI system is due to ignition problem. Due to of my lack of skill in maintaining the contact system ignition, I found that the contact system not so reliable with my smally. When I was riding my Special 90, suddenly it was stop running. It's happened several times in the middle of my city journey. She lost her electrical, no spark at all.

Finally I decided to try to change the system from contact to CDI. Here is the image of contact system. The main element of contact system consist of Ignition Coil, condenser and contact.

I tried to find out why it's happened. Based on my experience the root cause is inconsistency of contact movement. I pay attention to change contact position step by step and finally spark is on and she runs again. I think to find out to try modification of ignition rather than discussion with others. Then, I'm browsing the webs to find out any alternative which I could do by my self.

Well Vespa lovers, how are you doing in this week end?

Mitos : lelet lah, ngadat melulu lah, buluk, rongsokan.
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8278484615763916225.post-26435601965935835502015-09-30T18:21:00.000-07:002015-10-08T09:41:50.640-07:00Crazy about Smallframe Vespa

When we follow groups discussion in vespa scooters communities, most of them would like to have smallframe vespa. They would do anything to get a smallframe vespa, even they would love to barter their bike or scooter with smallframe vespa.

Why are they crazy about smallframe vespa? There are various reasons behind this trend. They love smallframe vespa due to slim body, hence they can ride better to pass the crowded road.

Other groups modify the ignition system from contact to CDI system with their own reason. The most interesting and wide range modification is smallframe vespa racing. For racing modification, they need to do a lot of thing. Not only cylinder and ignition, but also almost all part would be upgraded. Strarting from changing part into racing type, such as racing quality bearing. modification of crankcase and increasing of tuning quality.

As you may know that Vespa is one of the oldest known names in scooters, partly because of their long run in the industry. For nearly 60 years Vespa scooters have been manufactured and used as a primary or secondary from of transportation.

Originally an Italian company, Vespa scooters were designed to replace bicycles for a better means of transportation. The name Vespa is translated into “wasp” in English, which was what the original body style resembled. Several Vespa scooter models still made have similarities to the original body design, but still many other designs have been made through the company.

Though new models of Vespa scooters are still being designed and sold, the older, original models have become a valued
possession, now considered vintage. Vintage Vespas are yypically those that have the first designed body style.

Long-time supporters of Vespa scooters look to purchase older Vespa models so they can refurbish them and show off their new looking vintage Vespa. Vintage Vespas are not only valuable because of likeness; they are valuable monetarily as well, which is the main appeal to some collectors.

The parent company of Vespa scooters is Paggio who, in 2000, certified several Vespa Vintage Restoration Shops. These restoration locations where certified because Paggio saw that each shop had a keen and familiar understanding of mechanically working with old or vintage Vespa scooters as well as with the newer models. There are unique servicing methods and requirements for Vespa scooters, along with old designs of parts that need special attention. The certified Vespa Vintage shops are where the company recommends you take your vintage scooter to ensure quality service.

Through the Vespa scooter catalog you can order Vespa Vintage parts for remodeling old Vespas. The parts are certified original because they are made from the original drawings used to design the first Vespa scooters. Parts for other Vespa scooters can be purchased through the Vespa catalog or from scooter parts retailers online. For extreme advocates of Vespa scooters, new or vintage, there are Vespa clubs in some cities that help bring together those with common interests.

Online Vespa scooter sites provide a medium to contribute your thoughts or questions about Vespa scooters. These sites offer all varieties of information about Vespa, such as events involving the Vespa brand of scooters, releases of the newest models and books or other publications with Vespa scooter information. Beginner and experienced information can be found at the numerous Vespa scooter sites to help Vespa owners keep up with the latest.

One of the most enduring scenes in cinema is in the classic film Roman Holiday. The film starred the immortal and ever beautiful Audrey Hepburn (Oh how I love her!) and the talented Gregory Peck. Hepburn played a princess who was visiting Rome for a state visit. Tired of her strictly regimented life, she escaped the confines of her embassy, disguised herself as a commoner and began touring the streets of Rome. There she met Gregory Peck who played an American correspondent in Italy. The movie was basically a sight-seeing tour of the streets and Rome, but it is very memorable because they both toured the scenic spots in a Vespa scooter.

This singular scene catapulted the Vespa as a cultural icon. Though the movie was not really what you call a happy ending for they both did not end up with each other (oops sorry for ruining the plot to those who have not seen it), generations of girls dream of becoming Audrey Hepburn being swept away by their own Gregory Peck driving into the sunset in their very own Vespa.
Vespa scooters have their cult following. Like the Volkswagen or the Mini Cooper, Vespas are liked because of their unique (some consider cute as the more appropriate description) design. Vespa’s design was derived from wasps hence the name. As a matter of fact, wasp if translated into Italian is called vespa. The Vespa was first made after world war two and since then its design saw little deviations. Scooters are perfect for the old narrow and cobbled Roman streets.

It reflects the olden times when people are gentler, the days seemed slower and the air was full of romanticism. From those famed cobbled streets Vespa spread throughout the world. Perhaps because this little mode of transportation is perfect for weaving in and out in today’s heavily congested roads or perhaps Italians are really talented designers of vehicles. (I am sure most of you will agree with me on this point. I have yet to meet somebody who finds the highly desirable and exotic Ferrari sports cars as ugly.)

Ever since I had seen a Vespa in Roman Holiday, I always wanted to buy one for myself. There were only two problems that presented themselves to me. First, there is no Vespa being sold in our region and second, even if there are Vespas in our island, I cannot afford one. The closest things that resemble a Vespa in our place are the delivery scooters of Yellow Cab Pizza. I even joked to my cousin that we should steal one, remove the delivery compartment at the back and repaint it with any color not yellow. I would even dream of accessorizing them with parts from scooter, but of course I know that all this will just be a dream to me. Maybe in my mind’s eye, I see myself also driving a Vespa, sweeping my own Audrey Hepburn off her feet and we will both ride off into the sunset.

As a matter of fact, the majority of mopeds and vintage vespa scooters usually have a speed limit of 50 MPH, and they are prohibited by the law on the interstate highways.

By eHow Cars Editor

The Vespa design has stayed fairly consistent through the years. Though Vespas have been in production over 60 years, it is still an icon for youthful, economic culture. Vintage Vespas were produced from 1960 to 1974. You can identify a vintage Vespa by following these steps.
Step1
Familiarize yourself with Vespa models. A Vespa has a unibody made of metal, not plastic, designed to stabilize the rider. A Vespa looks like a metal wasp and its name is derived from this resemblance. Looking at Vespas and photos of Vespas from a variety of angles helps you see the resemblance among the different vintage Vespa models.
Step2
Know the traits for vintage Vespas. Piaggio of Italy manufactured the first Vespas which include model numbers VBB, VBC, and VLB. Each of these models has distinctive traits that focus on the shape of the front headlights, the rear taillight, the cowls, the odometer and the fenders. Original Vespas didn't have crash bars or protectors and the leg shield would be aluminum and chrome, not today's stainless steal.
Step3
Ask the experts. Vintage Vespas are often restored and updated so it can be tricky to see the difference between a restored vintage Vespa and a new model with classic traits. Several Vespa stores, like Classic Vespa, can identify your Vespa for you. You can email pictures to an expert or you can post a question on a scooter forum.
Step4
Use the numbers to identify the model. Many vintage Vespas can be identified by their engine or chassis number. Some experts identify the Vespa using these numbers. Italian models generally have an engine number that starts with the letter V. If you have the original registration information you can identify the vintage Vespa with it.
